Check out some of these great Midwest-related stories I read online during this past month:
- Catch the Fort Wayne Tin Caps this Summer!-Catching a minor league baseball ball game is one of our favorite things to do when we travel. I've yet to see Indiana's Fort Wayne TinCaps, but Lauren's preview of their 2012 season and their #1 rated Minor League Baseball ballpark at the Indiana Insider blog makes it look like something we'd really enjoy.
- Lake Erie Monsters: My First Cleveland Hockey Game-Hockey is definitely my first love when it comes to watching sports, and we attended a Lake Erie Monster game during the team's first season (2007-2008). Check out how much Amanda enjoyed her first Monster game at the Clue into Cleveland blog.
- Lake Erie: Marblehead Lighthouse State Park-Marblehead Lighthouse is a particular favorite of mine, and I've written about visiting this beautiful light tower along Lake Erie between Toledo and Cleveland many times. I loved seeing Aaron's take on Marblehead at The Adventures of the elatlboy.
- Civic Iconography: Raising the Queen City's Standard-I remember reading the article about the Chicago flag that Seth links to in his story about Cincinnati's flag, so I especially enjoyed Seth's thoughts on his city's standard at the Over-the-Rhine blog. Be sure to check out his companion post about civic design and branding, Could Cincinnati benefit from its own typeface?
- Before the Bridge in Brooklyn-The big, blue John A. Roebling Bridge spanning the Ohio River between Cincinnati (Ohio) and Covington (Kentucky) is one of my favorite spans, and a Cincinnati icon. Check out this post with several unique views of the bridge by "Gordon Bombay" at the Queen City Discovery blog.
- Indiana Bridges: Twin Bridges in Danville, Indiana-Jessica risks life and limb to bring readers some great shots of an early 20th century railroad bridge at her Little Indiana blog.
- Spanning the Industrial Revolution-Tony writes a great post about historic metal and concrete truss bridges in Indiana and includes a bit of history about these types of bridge construction at his Historic Hoosier Bridges blog.
- Belle Isle memories in the corner of my mind-I've visited Detroit's Belle Isle, and written about the King bridges there, and I thought Marge's story at the Detroit Regional News Hub, with the accompanying vintage photos, was a good look at the greatness of the island's past and its potential for the future.
- 5 Reasons Why I Love White River State Park-I've heard a lot of many things about this Indianapolis park, and Evan enumerates the reasons he loves White River State Park at the Doing Indy blog.
- Mickey's Diner, Revisited-Morchella writes about a vintage diner in St. Paul, Minnesota, near the Minnesota Children's Museum at the Nokohaha blog. Grilled cheese sandwiches and Art Deco styling? What's not to love?
