White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Michigan plants beautiful beds of tulips around its grounds and invites photographers to create their own images of the multi-colored flowers at the height of the season.
The cemetery does sponsor a photo contest where visitors can enter their best tulip images if they're willing to allow the cemetery to use winning images in their ads, brochures and other media.
I don't submit my images for the competition, but White Chapel is quite close to our home, so we often try to head on out there when the tulips look like they are at their peak to practice making images of the flowers from different angles.
This year, we got out to the cemetery on a beautiful day with a clear blue sky when plenty of tulips were in full bloom.
This image is one of my more successful attempts to shoot from below the flowers and capture the feeling of looking up into a forest of flowers.
This particular image took first place in Color General, Beginner Division competition for June 2015 at the Motor City Camera Club.
