We love metro Detroit's annual diversity festival, the Concert of Colors, which takes place across several different venues in Detroit's Midtown each July.
Here are a few images from this year's Friday evening performances on the North Lawn at the Detroit Festival of the Arts.
PanaMO took the stage first that evening, entertaining the crowd with a mix of spirited Latin jazz and salsa music. The band name, PanaMO, comes from combining "Panama" and "Motown", and the group's leader, Panamanian percussionist Obed Succari, studied with many great Latin percussionists. PanaMO's performance included a mix of jazz standards with unique arrangements, as well as original songs reflecting a strong Latin influence.
Cuddle Magic, joined by toy pianist and composer Phyllis Chen, took the stage next, performing what they called a show of barogue avant garde music accented by the use of a number of tiny and toy instruments. Chen's compositions and performances on the toy piano encourage listeners to view the traditional children's toy instrument with new respect, and her music complements the band's quirky shows that mix jazz and pop into an intriguing musical buffet.
