Today marks my sixth anniversary of writing and publishing Midwest Guest, so that calls for virtual cake and ice cream all around!
I've posted more than 800 stories here over the past six years, which is pretty comparable to the number of stories I did when I worked for a series of local newspapers, magazines and newsletters (yup, I worked in print as a local business writer for more than 10 years before establishing Midwest Guest online as a place to publish the regional travel stories I always longed to write).
Midwest Guest serves as a home base for my travel writing, allowing me to share stories about our explorations around the Midwest and links to stories I write for other sites and publications. It's been an exciting and fulfilling half dozen years for me with the blog, and I'm looking forward to celebrating many more years and stories here!
Meanwhile, I thought it might be fun to share a photo of a destination I've featured many times here at Midwest Guest...a place that was also the subject of one of my very first stories here at Midwest Guest.

The Marblehead Lighthouse on Lake Erie in Ohio is within 150 miles of home for me, making it an easy day-trip destination as I noted in this early Midwest Guest story. I'm especially fond of this particular lighthouse as it is easy enough for us to visit at different times of the year, so we can see it during the busy summer months or visit at a quiet time in the middle of winter.
This particular image comes from a quick snapshot I took as Tim and I returned home from a trip to Put-in-Bay last summer.
Now, I'm thinking carrot cake or a little peppermint ice cream! Too bad they don't really go together, but then again, it's my blog, and I figure I can mix and match as I please.
What do you think?
