I love bridges and I'll usually take a couple of pictures of a unique or nice-looking bridge when I spot one on our travels.
I saw this particular bridge while stopping by to Danville's Ellis Park in central Indiana take a few photos of something else. It was late in the day, and we were short on time, so I just snapped a couple of photos with the idea of checking out the bridge later to see if it had an interesting story.
Fast forward to Halloween and my remembering that I read some account of this bridge's link to a ghost story.
I don't remember seeing the remains of the bridge that the post recounting this story mentioned, but I started to dig around the Web to see if I could find out more about it.

While my bridge pictures in this story matched the bridge in the post, it soon became apparent to me that the story was part of, or confused with, the legends surrounding another supposedly haunted bridge near the park.
To further add to the confusion, there seems to be another "footbridge" by the park's playground for young kids.
I did find one other source that seemed to place the haunted bridge remains near the playground in Ellis Park and talked about the footbridge over the creek, but it also places the 2004 death of a girl who fell from a bridge abutment near this site, rather than near Danville's Twin Bridge site.
The story I wrote in the spring revolved around Danville's Twin Bridges, and the reports I uncovered at that time were conflicting as to what happened and at which specific span the ghosts supposedly haunted.
And so it often goes with ghost stories.
The details are often lost in the mists of time, exaggeration, fantasy, confusion or wishful thinking.
Still, I liked the bridge well enough to take a couple of pictures of it when I was there, so I'll leave you with these images and the continuing mystery of Danville's bridges to ponder.

Check out the story of baseball player Samuel Thompson, the story I originally came to this park to check out and ended up following to its conclusion in a cemetery in Detroit, Michigan.

Stories can vary from site to site, blog to blog or book to book that it's sometimes difficult to know exactly which version is true. My search for Gloria Pressman, billed as a silent movie star buried in Cleveland, Ohio in many sources I consulted, proved this point. Check out Who is Gloria Pressman? to find out what I learned about Gloria's story.
