Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry again sails to victory in the bicentennial re-enactment of the historic naval battle that became a turning point for American forces during the War of 1812 and helped pave the way to a lasting peace between the United States, Canada and Great Britain.
Sixteen beautiful tall ships converge along Ohio's northern lakeshore for the re-enactment and a series of events celebrating and honoring this special anniversary in early September.
Check out the second part of my Battle of Lake Erie Bicentennial Celebration events preview (part one previewed events happening earlier this summer in the season-long celebration) at the Ohio Tourism Division's Discovering Ohio blog.
This story also includes a photo from Tim Marks and one of a number of photos I took aboard the 1812 Privateer Lynx, one of the ships participating in the battle re-enactment.
