We're always looking for photo opportunities around town, and between image making and geocaching, we seem to spend a great deal of time in local cemeteries.
I grew up going to the White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Michigan. My grandmother and several other relatives are at White Chapel, and it's the place where I scandalized some family members by being a pallbearer at an aunt's funeral many years ago (yes, it was a different time and yes, we actually carried the casket into the mausoleum).
Last year, I discovered a happier reason to make a visit to this peaceful site.
Each spring, White Chapel plants many show beds of tulips throughout the grounds. The cemetery encourages photographers to visit to make images of the colorful flowers and sponsors an annual Tulip Festival Photo Contest.
Our visit to the cemetery this year came a little late in the season, so many of the tulips were already gone, but we still managed to make a few decent images that day.
I hope you enjoy these photos from this year's tulip season.
Be sure to check out Photo Friday: Tulip time in Troy, Michigan to see some of my photos from 2012 and Michigan's Polar Bears for the story of the World War I veterans who inspired the cemetery's polar bear monument and historical marker.
Thanks to Debbie Dubrow of Delicious Baby for creating and coordinating Photo Friday to link travel photos and blog posts across the Web.

Beautiful! There is a garden here that has a beautiful display and wouldn't you know, I wasn't able to visit this year? I was so bummed. I really wanted to capture some great photos.
