I like pickles. A lot.
My cupboards are full of pickle jars, including some real Midwest favorites like Detroit's own McClure's, Indiana's Sechler's and Ohio's Tony Packo's.
It's certainly impossible to pick a favorite pickle because all of them are so tasty!
One of most-viewed posts here at Midwest Guest over the years has been a story about our visit to The Pickle Factory in Fremont, Indiana several years ago. I've never really figured out the fascination with pickles among my readers, but I aim to please, so recently returned to The Pickle Factory on the way home from the Indianapolis area for another look-see...and, of course, to stock up with more pickles!
Yes, the cute little pickle bar was still in place, so we could sample a few pickled pleasures while we were shopping.
As you can see, we ended up with a good-sized box of goodies from The Pickle Factory that included a huge jar of No-Garlic Baby Dill Chips and a couple of tubes of dill pickle-flavored Pringles.
I'd also scored another pickle find earlier in this trip while stopping by to check out Joe's Butcher Shop in downtown Carmel, Indiana. Joe's had some great looking meat, but I didn't have the cooler to keep it cold until we got home a couple of days later.
So, I picked up a jar of Rickle's Pickles chips, and the cashier at Joe's told me they were the best pickles he'd ever tasted. Intrigued, I brought a jar home.
I looked Rickle's up online and heard the story of this unique pickle product produced in Fremont, Indiana.
Rickle's has a pretty great pickle. Sweet, yet with a nice hot kick at the end. We'll be on the lookout for more!
You can also check out my Yelp review page, where I keep a list of Fried Pickle Palaces. I particularly like the version at the local tavern up the street from me, Tavern on the Main in Clawson, Michigan, and I'm guessing that's largely because I suspect they add Frank's Hot Sauce to the batter (yes, I really love cayenne pepper sauce as well).
Also, be sure to check out my story about Tony Packo's original location in Toledo, Ohio.
Is there a Midwest pickle that particularly pleases your palate?

I went to Sechler's just outside of St. Joe when the Pickle Festival was going on. They had jars selling for $2 each...I bought a TON!
Later, I went to the Pickle Festival and got a Sechler's orange pickle and peanut butter sandwich.
Interesting to say the least. :-)
