Farmers markets are among my favorite stops when I'm traveling, and Cleveland's West Side Market is a must-see for foodies and any other visitors who relish a taste if this northern Ohio city's food, culture and history.
The market is Cleveland's oldest publicly owned market, tracing its origins back to the 1840s, and the market's current home celebrates its centennial this year.
We loved the venerable old building with its 137-foot clock tower, and I can't wait until we can visit the market again so I can finally lunch on a Polish Boy sandwich and score some pierogies to take home with me.
Check out West Side Market draws foodies to Cleveland, Ohio and Sample fresh market foods at Cleveland's West Side Market Cafe for more about our visit to the market.
Want to learn more? Check out Cleveland's West Side Market: 100 Years and Still Cooking by Laura Taxel, Marilou Suszko, Michael Symon and Barney Taxel, a history of the market due out later this year. This one goes on my wish list for sure!

I never knew such a great market was in Cleveland! I have been to Reading Terminal in Philly, which seems to be very similar (it was the best farmer's market I had been too, so I think I would really enjoy this one too)!

Adam-Thanks for stopping by! The Reading Market does look like a great one, with a similarly long history. I love visiting markets like these when we travel...one of the best ways to get a real taste of a location and its culture, don't you think?

Lots of great places to eat within the market, Jessie. Next time, I think I'll want to take some homemade perogis home :)
