- Day 328: Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum-It's been a while since we've visited the remote Whitefish Point Lighthouse in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, so I enjoyed reading Krissy's feature about the museum and learning about the museum's newest exhibits at the Awesome Mitten blog.
- Michigan: St. Joseph Lighthouse and Tisconia Park-Aaron takes readers to this scenic spot and its two-lighthouse pier in southwestern Michigan. Check it out at The Adventures of the elatlboy.
- Shipwrecks in Indiana-Shipwrecks? In Indiana? Yes, more than a dozen ships sank off of the coast in Indiana! Learn about the Hoosier state's maritime history by reading Nicole's story at the Indiana Insider blog.
- Titanic's Youngstown Connection-Did you know that the city of Youngstown, Ohio, has a strong connection to the sinking of the Titanic? Nope, I didn't either! Vince's fascinating story at Discovering Ohio tells how the famous shipwreck claimed the life of George Dennick Wick, a founder of the Youngstown company that became the largest locally-owned steel company in America.
- Put-in-Bay Getaway!-I remember visiting Put-in-Bay as a first-time solo traveler years ago. I'd love to visit again, so I enjoyed reading Mike's list of 10 great things to do in Put-in-Bay at his OHVentures blog.
- Old vs. New...You decide-I love old bridges, and I love Tony's idea of saving abandoned historic highway spans for reuse along hiking trails. Check out his story at Historic Hoosier Bridges about this beautiful little blue pony truss bridge saved from demolition, dismantled and put back together again to span a creek along the Greyhound Trail near Carmel, Indiana.
- League Stadium Video in Huntingburg, Indiana: Scene of A League of Their Own-Remember A League of Their Own, the 1997 movie about 1940s era women's professional baseball starring Tom Hanks, Geena Davis and Madonna? Well, check out the little indiana blog where Jessica takes readers to the small-town baseball field in that served as a set for the movie and still hosts baseball games today for the semi-professional DC Bombers.
- The World's Largest Buffalo, Dakota Thunder-We've actually seen this behemoth, but it was early on a dark and cold morning as we stopped on the way out of Jamestown after an overnight during a trip out to Montana and Wyoming. I didn't get any good photos, but Melanie visited Dakota Thunder on a much nicer day and shares a great view of this North Dakota landmark at Wandering Educators.
- Detroit on Film-Detroit is ready for its close-up if the collection of short films about the city Aaron spotlights in this post at The Urbanophile is any indication. The list includes "Lemonade: Detroit", an inspirational film that Director/Producer Erik Proulx hopes will be the basis of a full-length feature. Want to become an IMDB-credited producer yourself? Visit Proulx' micro-funding site and learn how to become part of the action (yes, I've purchased a few seconds' worth of frames over the past two years!).
