I don't remember learning a lot about the War of 1812 in school, but these next few years offer some great opportunities to learn more about the crucial role Midwestern states like Ohio played in this fascinating part of our country's history.
Tim and I recently visited Fort Meigs in Perrysburg, Ohio. Tim found the fort especially fascinating as he is a graduate student in history at Wayne State University in Detroit and recently completed a class covering the war, along with writing a paper about the war as seen through the eyes of a Detroit/Windsor area family.

Interested in learning more about the War of 1812 in our region? Check out my story, The Baby House spotlights Canadian history and identity in Windsor, Ontario, that I wrote after visiting the home and museum when Tim's class took a field trip to the site (yes, I guess that makes me a "room mother" or class chaperone!).
