Today's guest post comes from my other half, Tim Marks Nestled between Lake Michigan on the west and Lake Leelanau on the east, sits the picturesque resort town of Leland, Michigan. Offering cozy bed & breakfast inns, casual gourmet restaurants, a pleasure boat harbor and gorgeous sandy beaches, Leland is a great place to spend a day shopping or a week of boating and sun worshiping. Nearby is the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (newly named “Most beautiful place in America” by Good Morning America (ABC-TV) offering many opportunities for exploring the area’s natural beauty and maritime history. One of the most unique features of Leland is a small historic fishing port called “Fishtown.” Still a working commercial fishing port, Fishtown now includes small boutique stores as well as fishing charters, and great chowder and whitefish at the Cove Restaurant. Fishtown is a fabulous place to linger over a mug of beer and a bowl of chowder, or better yet, wander among the old buildings taking pictures of the unique architecture and old fishing nets. Wandering around Leland and Fishtown is one of Michigan’s many pleasures. Give it a try some time.
