Spring seemed to arrive a touch early here in metro Detroit, and Easter seemed like a great time for a trip out to Kensington Metropark in Milford to check out the herons along the Wildwing trail boardwalk.
We spent a couple of sunny hours eating the occasional jelly bean and watching the herons as they flew back and forth across the lake, like this heron I caught mid-flight with a single branch destined for its treetop nest.
It took a sharp eye to catch this heron that ventured a little closer to the boardwalk, and I managed a few photos with my long lens.
Check out my Photo Friday feature about Kensington from last spring to see a few more photos that include one of the herons nesting in the treetops.
Thanks to Debbie Dubrow of Delicious Baby for creating and coordinating Photo Friday to link travel photos and blog posts across the Web.

Lora-Thanks! It was a nice day, and not crowded at all, so the one heron was a little more adventurous about coming closer to the boardwalk!
