Regular Midwest Guest readers may remember my
earlier post about the vintage 1952 Wienermobile at The Henry Ford here in
metro Detroit. I posted a few photos and a little history of the quirky
vehicles used as rolling advertisements for Oscar Mayer hot dogs.
Regular Photo Friday readers may remember Debbie's
post on Delicious Baby about her seeing the roving hotdog in Chicago when we
were all in town for the BlogHer convention.

Well, I spotted the same Wienermobile when I looked
out the window as I was taking an escalator up to yet another BlogHer convention
session. Needless to say, when I got to the next floor, I turned right around
and took the down escalator back to the main floor so I could go out and see the
Wienermobile up close.

Let's go inside, shall we?

And let's meet Doggone Dave.
Doggone Dave was just starting a year-long tour as a
Hotdogger (Wienermobile driver) when I met him this summer. The company gives
each driver their hotdog identity and a script of hokey puns to use as they
greet visitors.
Doggone Dave is happy to see visitors.
"Franks a lot," he says as we board the
Wienermobile and admire the custom orange-and-yellow interior.
We only have a minute or two aboard the
vehicle--long enough to send a Tweet and for Doggone Dave to hand out a few promotional
gifts like Wienermobile whistles and T-shirts.
Doggone Dave poses for a few photos. One woman says
he should say "I have the best doggone job" instead of
"cheese" as we snap pictures.

Doggone Dave happily obliges.
It's time all too quickly to leave.
"Ketchup with you later," says Doggone Dave.

Ketchup with Doggone Dave and read about his visit to BlogHer. I wish I'd been lucky enough to get a ride on the Wienermobile!
Thanks to Debbie Dubrow of Delicious Baby for
creating and coordinating Photo Friday to link travel photos and blog posts
across the Web.

I hope that if I ever see the wienermobile, I'll have my camera handy!

Jen-It's silly in a good way, though :)
Amida-I happened to have my little point-and-shoot with me in my tote bag (I carried that around for much of BlogHer), so I was lucky enough to get these shots!

wow, look at the details inside and outside! The BIG BUN number plate is perfect for it, don't you think?

They actually still have these cars, and now updated and modernized. I would have such fun driving this around!

Maria-I wasn't too sure about the BIG BUN plate on the -rear- of the car
Maria V.-These are built on a truck chassis from what I've read. This one did look a bit different from the vintage one we've seen at The Henry Ford here in Michigan.
The team with this car seemed to having a great time...they sure look like they were getting a lot of smiles, waves and conversation.

I have always wondered what it looks like inside one of those!

YOU WENT INSIDE THE WEINERMOBILE??? You did not! Jealous! Was it all you dreamed it would be and more?? =)

"Franks a lot"? - that one just got me. This post is TOO COOL.
Posted by: Lorraine | September 13, 2009 at 02:20 PM
Susan-I was curious, too! That's why I ran out there when I saw the Wienermobile outside!
C&C-I did too! I heard that some folks even got to -ride around- in the Wienermobile that weekend. Now, if that had happened to me, that may have been the stuff of dreams, eh?
Lorraine-Doggone Dave had plenty more where that came from! I managed to scribble down a couple of them so I could share them here :)

I saw the wienermobile but never got that close. I would have loved to go inside. Thanks for taking me along on this. It brings back a lot of childhood memories.

Flygirl-I got lucky and got a quick glimpse inside! Fun, fun, fun!

I know another gal who got to ride in the Wienermobile in Chicago in the "shotbun" seat.
We saw it driving around Madison, WI, and my kids were delighted!

Linda-I'd love to get a ride on the Wienermobile..."Shotbun" seat
